Urea-formaldehyde resin (UF), also known as urea-formaldehyde resin, is formed by the polycondensation of urea and formaldehyde under the action of a catalyst (alkaline or acidic). The initial urea-formaldehyde resin is then converted to an insoluble, infusible final thermosetting resin under the action of a curing agent or additive. It is the most widely used adhesive, particularly in the manufacture of various wood-based panels in the wood processing industry. Urea-formaldehyde resin and its modified products account for approximately 90% of total adhesive use.
