Sodium thiosulphate can adjust the pH balance of water quality in aquaculture; it can also absorb organic suspended solids in water bodies, thereby purifying water quality.

Sodium thiosulfate solution can dissolve the unsensitized silver bromide in the developed photographic film into a colorless complex and remove it, so it is a commonly used fixing agent.

Reducing agent for dichromate when tanning leather.

In the paper industry, it is used as a chlorine remover after pulp bleaching.
